Kinetica Ventures was launched in 2015 through an Innovate Calgary initiative to develop an energy technology accelerator program. The launch was made possible with $3 million in funding over five years from the Government of Canada through the Canada Accelerator and Incubator Program (CAIP), and is supported by Alberta Economic Development and Trade. Kinetica is powered by Innovate Calgary and was founded by key members of the Innovate Calgary Executive Team.
Kinetica Ventures is pleased to have four experienced and knowledgeable industry leaders in our Advisory Council. The Advisory Council, led by Mike Singleton, ensures that Kinetica is closely aligned with the needs of the energy industry and that the technology companies under acceleration with Kinetica are introduced to the right partners to validate and test their technology.
Kinetica's Extended Team includes individuals with significant technical, industry and business knowledge in one or more of Kinetica's focus areas. These individuals work with Kinetica's Core Team and Kinetica clients on a volunteer basis or for short term mentoring assingments.

Director, Technology & Market Intelligence
Wally leads a sector-focused team that combines technical assessment and product development guidance with market validation and company creation expertise. The team’s mission is to help energy researchers and inventors commercialize their technologies faster and more cost-effectively. Focusing on pre-company technology development and de-risking, Wally and his team work alongside innovators to help them progress from applied research through proof of concept and compelling prototype demonstrations towards defining and developing market-validated offerings ready for commercialization.
Wally brings over 26 years of engineering, product, and technology development expertise to the Kinetica Ventures team. Previously, he worked as Advanced Technology Integration Leader and Director of Engineering at BW Technologies by Honeywell, a global provider of portable life safety gas detection equipment. Prior to Honeywell, Wally served in a number of senior R&D and program management roles at Global Thermoelectric and Nortel Networks. Having led many technology-intensive product development programs from initial concept through to successful market launch, Wally has a deep understanding of the end to end design and commercialization process, and is able to help Kinetica clients develop comprehensive execution strategies.
Successful product development requires vision, teamwork, and insightful understanding of both technology constraints and customer needs. Innovators often face the additional challenge of breaking trails in territory where neither their technology’s capability nor the market requirements are fully developed. Bringing a balanced approach towards technical rigor, pragmatic risk management and an entrepreneurial mindset, Wally and his team help innovators explore the opportunity landscape, set clear direction, and move quickly towards commercial readiness.
Wally holds a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta.
